JL Tooker

Attention alters what we see.
My work begins there.
I write fiction, poetry, and essays that examine wonder, memory, and the structures beneath experience. I move between speculative narrative and reflective inquiry, drawn to the meeting point of imagination and analysis—where myth meets math, where language shapes perception.
Each project unfolds as an act of sustained attention. Some take the form of long fiction rooted in an evolving speculative universe. Others compress into lyric forms shaped by constraint. Essays explore creativity, mythology, and the philosophy of writing as lived practice.
My ongoing work appears on Substack, where I write regularly about craft, inquiry, and the habits that shape creative life.
All work begins in wonder.
